Closure of Canal Bridge

Closure of Canal Bridge

I would like to inform you of the proposed investigation works which will require the closure of Chirk Bank Canal Bridge which carries a "C classified "road over the Shropshire Union Canal.

The work is proposed to start on the 17th June 2024 for 3 days

The works will involve a series of trial holes over the bridge.

Unfortunately, in order to carry out the proposed work safely it will be necessary to close the bridge to vehicular traffic 24 hrs a day for the period of the road closure.

When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted by a signed diversion route. For more information please visit https://one.network/?tm=GB138778390

Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the works, and access to frontages will be maintained up to the bridge closure.

Inevitably there will be some disruption during these works, for which we apologise in advance. We will always endeavour to minimise any inconvenience to you.

The work will be carried out by the Council's term maintenance contractor Kier, with supervision being provided by WSP on behalf of Shropshire Council.

In order to inform the public of the proposals, advance notice signs will be erected at the bridge and an information letter delivered to local properties. A press release will also be issued, but in the meantime if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards

Peter Gould
